Secure in the Saddle – or Rather: Safe on the Deck
It looks child's play: step on, hit the throttle, and go. But anyone who has skidded across the cobblestones of Ludwigsburg's old town in the rain knows that riding an e-scooter has its pitfalls. At our Ludwigsburg workshop, we often see the results of minor riding errors. The most important thing: your stance. Don't put your feet side-by-side. One foot forward, one back – the skater stance. This gives you way more control, especially when you need to hit the brakes hard.
Pro Hack: 'Absorbing' Potholes
Bend your knees slightly when hitting bumps or potholes. Your legs are the best shock absorbers you have! It saves your back and your scooter's headset bearings.
Defensive Riding Saves Nerves (and Money)
Make eye contact: Drivers often underestimate e-scooter speeds. Ease off the throttle when things get confusing.
Check the surface: Wet leaves or tram tracks (especially nasty in Stuttgart!) are the ultimate enemies. Always cross tracks at a sharp angle.
Lights on: Even during the day, it helps to be seen. A quick light check should be part of every pre-ride routine.
Most accidents don't happen because of technical failures, but because riders overestimate themselves or ignore their surroundings. Ride so you can stop at any time.
Sidewalk or Road? Where can you actually ride?
Vorteile
- ✓Bike lanes: Your first choice (safe and usually flat)
- ✓Roads: Only if no bike lane is available (Remember to signal!)
- ✓Bicycle streets: Relaxed riding allowed here
Nachteile
- ✗Sidewalks: Absolutely forbidden! (Fines and trouble with pedestrians)
- ✗One-way streets: Only against traffic if explicitly allowed for cyclists
Many forget that aggressive riding drains the battery fast. If you're constantly pinning the throttle in city traffic, your range will tank. We recommend using momentum. Ease off the gas early when approaching a red light. This saves your brake pads and even regenerates some energy on certain models.
