Safe E-Scooter Riding: More Than Just Hitting the Throttle
Let's be real: When you step on an e-scooter for the first time, it's easy to underestimate those tiny wheels. In our Ludwigsburg workshop, we unfortunately see the aftermath of crashes that could've been avoided. Sometimes it was a curb, sometimes a wet street in downtown Stuttgart.
Safe riding starts with your mindset – and your tech. A scooter that isn't in top shape won't react the way you need it to in a tight spot. And honestly, who wants to take a spill just because of poorly adjusted brakes? Don't worry, though, we'll walk through this together.
Pre-Ride Check
Before you take off, quickly squeeze the brakes and check if there's air in the tires. A flat tire makes the ride wobbly and dangerous. If you're unsure, check our <a href="https://escooterreparaturen.de/de/ratgeber/wartung-pflege/e-scooter-reparaturen-anleitungen-und-tipps-zur-instandhaltung">maintenance tips</a>.
The Right Riding Technique for the Road
Secure Stance: One foot forward, one back. This gives you stability when braking.
Look Ahead: Always approach curbs at a right angle (otherwise you'll slide!).
Braking Right: Shift your center of gravity back so the rear wheel doesn't lift.
What we often see: People riding with locked arms. That's poison for your joints, and you'll be on the ground faster than you can say 'oops' if you hit a pothole. Always keep your elbows slightly bent!
Cycle Path vs. Road
Vorteile
- ✓Cycle paths are generally safer from cars
- ✓Less stress with honking drivers
- ✓Often smoother surface than cobblestones
Nachteile
- ✗Sidewalks are off-limits (hefty fines!)
- ✗Pedestrians often underestimate your speed
- ✗Turning cars at intersections easily overlook e-scooters
Then there's the visibility issue. Especially if you're commuting to Stuttgart for work in the morning, good lights are vital. If you aren't seen, you're the one losing out. If your brakes squeak or the scooter pulls to one side, better drop by. We even have a pick-up service for Stuttgart if you don't want to ride it in at all.
Safety isn't an accident; it's preparation. Once your scooter has been checked by us, you can at least rely 100% on the tech. The rest is down to your focus and a helmet (yes, we really do recommend them!).
