E-Scooter Warranty Jungle: When does the manufacturer pay?
It sounds simple: your scooter breaks, and the manufacturer fixes it for free. But anyone who has tried to claim a repair after six months knows reality is different. In our Ludwigsburg workshop, we see disappointed owners daily because their claims were denied.
The issue? Many confuse statutory warranty with voluntary manufacturer guarantee. And then there's wear and tear. A flat tire isn't a warranty case. But what about the battery or a frame crack? That's where it gets interesting.
The subtle difference
Statutory warranty is mandatory (24 months) and applies if the defect existed at purchase. After 12 months, you have to prove it. Guarantee is a manufacturer promise – and they set the rules (often just 6 months for the battery!).

Vorteile
- ✓Warranty repairs are (theoretically) free of charge
- ✓Parts are original manufacturer components
- ✓Legally protected for expensive motor failures
Nachteile
- ✗Weeks of waiting for shipping (super annoying)
- ✗High risk of being blamed for 'misuse'
- ✗Wear parts like tires are usually not covered anyway
When the warranty almost always expires
We see it all the time: a bit of 'optimization' on the controller to hit 22 km/h, and suddenly nothing works. If you mess with tuning, you can kiss your warranty goodbye. Manufacturers can see it in the software logs!
Water damage is another thing. IPX5 doesn't mean you can use a power washer. If we open the deck and see corrosion, no manufacturer will cover that.
Pro tip: keep the original box! If you have to ship the scooter, doing it without the massive box is a total drama.
