Clean Scooter, Broken Bearings? Why High-Pressure Washers Are Your Enemy

Let's be real: who hasn't thought about just giving their e-scooter a quick blast with a pressure washer at the gas station? It's fast, looks great afterwards – but it's the surest way to end up pushing your ride straight to our Ludwigsburg workshop. Why? Because that intense water jet forces its way past seals that are only designed for light splashes.

We see it all the time: sparkling on the outside, but inside the bearings are rusting or the display dies from a short circuit. Water and electronics just don't mix. In this guide, we'll show you how to get rid of the mud from your last tour without wrecking the hardware.

Important: Battery Safety First!

Before you even pick up a cloth: turn the scooter off and make sure the charging port is tightly sealed. A single drop of water in the wrong place can get expensive. If your battery is already acting up, check our battery guide first.

The Toolbox for E-Scooter Washing

🧺

Two buckets of water (one with mild cleaner, one for rinsing).

🧹

A soft brush or an old toothbrush for those nasty corners on the rims.

🧻

Microfiber cloths (one for washing, one for drying).

🚫

No aggressive degreasers – they attack the plastic and the tires!

A clean e-scooter doesn't just ride better; it lasts longer. Dirt acts like sandpaper on your brakes and bearings. Proper care saves you from expensive repairs.

Dry Cleaning vs. Wet Cleaning

Vorteile
 • Dry: Zero risk for electronics
 • Wet: Dissolves stubborn mud and road salt in winter
 • Regular wiping prevents corrosion
Nachteile
 • Dry: Dust can scratch the paint if you press too hard
 • Wet: Requires extreme caution around the motor and display

Pay special attention to the brakes. If oil or cleaning agents get on them, your braking power is gone. We recommend wiping the brake discs with isopropanol after every wash. And while you're at it: check your tire pressure. A clean tire with low air is useless and might lead to a flat on your way through town.

If you notice during cleaning that dirt has already worked its way deep into moving parts, that's where we come in. Our maintenance service includes professional deep cleaning and lubrication of all bearings.

Can I use glass cleaner for the display?
Better not. Many glass cleaners contain alcohol, which can make plastic brittle over time. A damp microfiber cloth is usually enough.
How often should I clean my scooter?
In summer, every few weeks is fine. In winter, when there's salt on the roads, basically after every major ride to prevent oxidation.
